President Ho Chi Minh called for patriotic emulation
President Ho Chi Minh was really interested in the patriotic emulation movement and he was a emulation model. President Ho Chi Minh not only left to our Party and people views on patriotic emulation, but the movement of patriotic emulation launched by him and the Party left valuable experiences in directing, steering, and organizing the current emulation movement. Although seventy years have gone since President Ho Chi Minh wrote the appealing to Patriotic Emulation (11th June 1948 – June 11th 2018), until now the theoretical and practical values of the appealing remain intact.
After the August Revolution in 1945, the French colonialists used force to re-establish the rule over our country once again. Facing in the situation that the country is under "Hang by a single hair" because of internal enemy, external enemy, famine and illiterate everywhere, the President Ho Chi Minh was aware that mobilization of the power of the whole Vietnamese people were very necessary to carry out the urgent tasks of the revolution: building and protecting the revolutionary government against the French colonialists, eliminating the internal resistance and improving the people's living.
On December 19th, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh issued a call for national resistance. With the will that “sacrifice for all but not let losing the country, and definitely not to be slaves”, the whole Vietnamese people have to stand up to resist the French colonialists. After the victory of the Viet Bac (Autumn - Winter 1947), President Ho Chi Minh proposed the initiative of organizing and leading the patriotic emulation movement to win a bigger victory. Accepted his propose, on March 27th, 1948, the Party Central Committee issued a directive to launch the patriotic emulation movement. The directive defined: "... the purpose of patriotic emulation is to make the resistance to victory quickly and restructure successfully." After the Party Central Committee issued the directive on the 1,000th day of the resistance (the Resistance Day of the South against the French colonialists on September 23rd 1945), on June 11th, 1948 President Ho Chi Minh issued the "Call for the patriotic emulation movement". To "kill the hunger invaders, the ignorant invaders and the foreign invaders, "Want to self-sufficiency and follow other people on time, we have to go quickly.
Therefore, the artists, peasants, workers or soldiers, girls or boys the young or the old, all people no matter what position or job they do, all must strive to participate in the patriotic emulation movement" said President Ho Chi Minh in the first call for patriotic emulation movement (1948). According to President Ho Chi Minh, all classes of people regardless of their positions and works must participate in the patriotic emulation movement. According to President Ho Chi Minh, those who are patriotic Vietnamese, all must carry out emulation "the emulation means patriotism". President Ho Chi Minh said that the emulation was not only a positive and creative activity in daily life but also a manifestation of patriotism and a feeling of every Vietnamese person to the motherland. The emulation is the driving force to promote patriotism, making patriotism manifested by practical actions in production, combat and vice versa the patriotism is to boost emulation effect. President Ho Chi Minh said: "Saying that patriotism must be carry out emulation and the emulation people are the most patriotic." President Ho Chi Minh made the emulation movement of our people bearing the Vietnamese national identity that is patriotism formed through thousands of years of history and that is ethics, culture and manners of the Vietnamese people. For the way of emulation, according to President Ho Chi Minh is based on "the people's force, the spirit of the people", "do fast, do well, do more", making the patriotic emulation movement "deepening, spreading in all aspects and all classes of people". He affirmed that the results of the patriotic emulation movement would be: "All the people have enough to eat, the whole people can read and write, the whole soldiers have enough food to eat and weapons to kill foreign invaders, the nation will gain independence and unification completely". According to President Ho Chi Minh, the emulation is not only aimed at developing production, improving the efficiency of work, building up advanced elements but also "helping the poor", eliminating the backward elements inhibiting the development of production and social progress. Through the emulation movement, the people were eager to come to real life, practicing and growing so that "every Vietnamese people, despite the old or the young, the boys and the girls; the rich or the poor needs to become a fighter in the fronts of military, economy, politics and culture. " Thanks to the emulation movement, our people not only improve productivity but also eliminate the bad habits of the old regime, promoting the fine national tradition and contributing to build a new culture, new people and new life. Carrying out the President Ho Chi Minh's call for patriotic emulation movement, the country aroused powerful and effective patriotic movements. On all fronts, from the front line to the rear; in all the fields of politics, economy, culture, education and military; throughout the branches and levels, everywhere is exciting about the patriotic emulation movement. The revolutionary history of this period also imprinted images of the patriotic emulation movements: "Building the Party Cell with four good things" in the Party; "Coastal wave" in industry; "Strong Wind " in agriculture; "the flag with the three best" in the armed forces; "Three readies" with the youth; "Three responsibles" with women; "Do a thousand good thing" in children; "Bac Ly drum" in education, and so on. As the President Ho Chi Minh summarized later: "all people in the emulation, all the industry in the emulation, I definitely won, the enemy lost in a certain". The successful triumph of the resistance against the French colonialists and American imperialists proved eloquently for this statement of the President Ho Chi Minh. It is also an endless source of strength contributing to building socialism then. Born 70 years ago, the President Ho Chi Minh's call for patriotic emulation movement still has featured a profound news with theoretical and practical values for the current patriotic emulation movement. His guidance on the purposes, forces and ways of doing in the call for the patriotic emulation movement continues to show the way for the Vietnamese people on the journey of building a socialist Vietnam with the rich people and the strong country democracy, fair and civilization. Following the Ho Chi Minh’s ideology of patriotic emulation, the patriotic emulation movement has achieved many important results in all fields of social life. The emulation movement has increasingly come into reality, has closely followed the political tasks of the Party and the departments, ministries, sectors and localities. In general, the emulation organized and launched with various forms, clear themes, specific criteria, practical contents and effective implementation. The emulation movement has focused on building new models, new factors and performing well in all four stages: discovering, fostering, summing up and replicating advanced models. Throughout the emulation movements, there have been many typical examples of the collectives and individuals in labor, production, fighting and learning. The results gained from the patriotic emulation movements is a convincing evidence that the Party, State and people have used and developed creatively Ho Chi Minh's ideas on the patriotic emulation in the new period. At the same time, it also demonstrates the strong vitality and spread values of the President Ho Chi Minh's call for the patriotic emulation in practice. During the past 70 years since the day the President Ho Chi Minh launched the call for patriotic emulation, the Party and people always have grasped and constantly applied creative ideas of patriotic emulation of the President Ho Chi Minh to implement effectively the emulation movements and the emulation and commendation, contributing to successful implementation of the Party's directives and resolutions in the specific conditions and situations of the country.
